It creates a softer light if you angle the lamp up towards the ceiling, otherwise the light was a bit harsh and it made shadows. Exactly what I was looking for, to brighten a dark corner in the kitchen without being too much. I went for the smoke coloured glass to temper the brightness and it works perfectly - an ambient, warm light that even makes the room feel a little warmer! (All psychological I guess). I love the fact that the base is rectangular - rather than round - so it fits snuggly into the corner. The power cable also comes out of the base so there's no cabling visible around the pole. Crated from metal, this goose neck floor lamp is the perfect addition to your study or cosy reading corner.

Overall I like this lamp shade. The base is heavy which means there’s no leaning, easy to assemble and has a classic look which compliments the age of our home. I’m going to change the shade for a more colourful one though. It’s currently on a stool to add more height so this is why I’ve only given 4 stars as would’ve liked it higher but this was the tallest in this style I could find.. Lucy.
