Providing a shelter for hedgehogs gives them places to hibernate during the winter, somewhere they can be safe and warm, out of harm's way. This is especially important nowadays as recently, hedgehogs have been nestling down in bonfire stacks before they are lit; with tragic results. Made from wood (untreated - which is best for the hedgehogs as it emits no fumes), the hedgehog house has a large opening at the front so the hedgehog can get in easily, but small enough to keep foxes and predators out. The roof is made of bark, blends in with surrounding flora, with only the cute hedgehog sign above the door giving a clue to who is inside. Finished in natural green and brown colours, the ceramic bowls are decorative, practical and easy to clean.

The nestbox is made from slow-seasoned FSC timber and maybe painted annually with matching water-based paints to maintain their appearance. The nestbox may be cleaned out of any old nesting material and disinfected with a suitable product such as Wildkleen outside of the breeding season (Sept to Feb). To open, swing the brass catch to the upright position and pivot the nestbox side, by opening at the bottom.

Made from recycled agricultural plastic on a plywood skeleton. The screwed construction techniques give strength and longevity, ensuring the habitat can withstand crushing or strimming. Clean if unoccupied after winter use (late March to early April) To treat the house for fleas, use only organic Pyrethrum powers suitable for birds. Dog and cat treatments are too strong and may kill a hedgehog Siting Locate the Hogilo within cover, out of the prevailing wind. Pile leaves or foliage around the house to further camouflage it.
