Looks fantastic in my libary and its a good quality, all over real wood and its lockable, love it. I use it like a bookend, but i use the Box as well. The dimensions of the Box are wrong on the Website, i bought it without to know the correct dimensions, the dimensions are Overall 21,5 cm H x 14,5 cm W x 7 cm D and the Box inside has the dimensions of 16 cm H x 9,5 cm W x 5,5cm D. Bluenose was a Canadian fishing and racing schooner from Nova Scotia, built-in 1921. She became a provincial icon for Nova Scotia as well as an important Canadian symbol in the 1930s. The name 'bluenose' originated as a nickname for Nova Scotias from as early as the 18th century. This tribute is nothing short of magnificent. It has a hollow hull, constructed entirely of wood, whilst on deck, there are delightful details such as adjustable rigging blocks, sewn cotton sails, raised gunwales and brass fittings.

This brass pocket sundial is a completely self-contained portable instrument, with a compass for alignment and lid for protection. The gnomon is set for latitudes around 50 Degrees north, so will be most accurate in the south of England, northern Europe, Canada and so on. At these latitudes, this is a functioning time indicator (in as much as sundials ever were!).

Stumpy little steam-powered cargo ships like these were once a familiar sight around the West Coast of Scotland, providing an essential supply link ferrying goods and coal around the islands - their flat bottoms allowing them to the beach and unload in places that lacked suitable Piers. Although only a handful remains in service today, they are instantly recognized and much loved thanks largely to the short stories by Neil Munro about Vital spark and her Captain Para handy.

Vernier sextants were, in skilled hands, instruments of great accuracy, practicality and beauty - a joy to own and use, but also essential to the safety of the ship. This replica is dedicated to Royal Navy Captain John Campbell, who developed the instrument in 1757. Crucially his invention appeared at about the same time as the first accurate, portable chronometers - and the combination of the two transformed navigation from guesswork to science, saving countless lives at sea. This importance gave rise to the air of mystique which surrounds the instrument and its use, even in today's age of electronic wizardry. Detailing is impressive, with hardwood handle and protective box, six shades of varying intensity, and a powerful telescope. Instrument measure 20 cm x 16 cm. Box 23 cm square. Please note: The Campbell sextant has fully functioning parts but is not intended for serious use.

Our Titanic Whistle has been specially engraved to commemorate the 100 Years since the tragic event back in when Titanic sank - losing over 1500 lives. Authentic replica of the whistle used by Titanic's First Mate, as used so dramatically in the film to facilitate Kate Winslet's rescue. Aboard HMS Beagle during the Darwin Expeditions of 1831-36, Captain Robert Fitzroy developed and refined the 18th-century storm bottle. This involved much testing and observation of crystal formations and resulted in him being able to make a number of weather predictions with a fair(is) degree of accuracy. Then, as now, no one is quite sure how the storm bottle works. Is it atmospheric pressure, temperature, electrical disturbances? Keep your own records and see if you can confirm or improve upon Fitzroy’s observations.

These curious and mesmerising instruments measure the power of electromagnetic radiation. Made from a glass bulb with much of the air removed to form a partial vacuum, inside is a set of fine metal vanes, each with one dark and one light side, mounted on a spindle. The vanes rotate, as if by magic when exposed to sunlight, artificial light, or infrared radiation (even the heat of a hand nearby can be enough) – the more intense the light, the faster the rotation.

Named in tribute to the world-famous clipper Cutty Sark, this antique-finish brass compass has an engraving of the globe on the underside cantering particularly on Australia, the destination for Cutty Sark on many occasions to bring wool and other cargo back to England. In December 1883, Cutty Sark broke the record for the fastest passage back to London from Australia, she was to break her own record on several occasions subsequently.

Horns have been used in shipping and other forms of transport for centuries to attract attention and give warning, particularly in fog. Their 'taxi' Horns have rubber bulbs and deliver a hefty, and somewhat amusing, 'honk honk', evoking images of classic early cars negotiating crowded city streets and bustling harbours being Criss-crossed by a myriad of small craft.
